Here are some compelling facts:

The incidence of a number of developmental disorders is increasing each year at an alarming rate. It could happen in your family. You do not have to have someone in your family already affected by a specific developmental disorder to be at risk.

Developmental disorders create incredible hardship for parents, lead to burnout among even the most capable teachers, and cost our economy $36 billion per year for special education alone.

Parents bear a huge emotional and financial burden.

School systems struggle, attempting to modify educational programs in an effort to overcome the behaviors and learning differences that are the symptoms of these disorders.

Today most developmental disorders are defined solely by behavior, because there are no medical tests to diagnose them or differentiate them.

We now know that the changes in brain function that cause these problems begins during fetal life.

Most of the symptoms and behaviors of a developmental disorder remain throughout the life of the affected individual, long past the age of 21 when our public school system is mandated to address them.

There are hundreds of organizations focused on a single developmental disorder, appropriately directing funds into research that will benefit those already affected.

For the past 5 years, The Fetal Physiology Foundation has been working to bring the scientific, medical, and educational communities together to address the causes of developmental disorders in the hope of preventing them.
